Dalby Earthmoving
Digging a hole’s the easy part—knowing why, how deep, and where the water will go takes experience. At Oakleigh Earthmoving, we bring over 25 years of practical knowledge to every job, working across Dalby, the Western Downs and beyond. We’re not a big, faceless company—just a small, tight-knit crew who know earthmoving inside and out.
We work one-on-one with farmers, landowners and developers to understand exactly what the land needs. Whether it’s a structural pad for a new shed, clearing overgrown paddocks or building a dam to catch run-off, we’ve done it—and done it well. With dozers and excavators ready to roll, we take care of everything from fence lines to flood clean-ups.

Earthworks That Solve Land Problems
Need to move dirt, shape it or clear what’s on top of it? That’s where we come in. Our work spans stick raking, cutter barring, drainage, firebreaks, driveway cuts, arena builds and more. It’s not just about getting from A to B—it’s about knowing what your land needs to stay safe, productive and easy to manage.
We’ve helped graziers prep for the wet season, restored paddocks after floods and carved in contour banks that last. Our machines are serviced like clockwork and kitted out with attachments to suit tricky terrain and tough vegetation.
From the Bunya Mountains to the back paddocks in Moonie, we’ve helped turn rough land into useful, working ground. No sales spin—just skilled earthworks delivered with care.
What is stick raking and why is it useful?
Stick raking clears vegetation, branches and surface-level roots from the ground, usually using a dozer with a special rake attachment. It’s commonly used before seeding, fencing or building access tracks. Stick raking helps reduce fire hazards, preps land for development and allows regrowth without damaging topsoil too heavily.
It’s ideal for large rural blocks that haven’t been maintained or need a fresh start.
How do I know if I need contour banks?
If your land suffers from runoff, erosion or water pooling in unwanted areas, contour banks can help. These shallow, engineered ridges slow down water, spreading it more evenly across a slope. They're especially useful on grazing or cropping land where moisture control is critical.
A professional earthmoving team will assess your property's slope, soil type and purpose before recommending a design.
Can I build a dam on my property?
Yes, but there are a few key things to consider. You’ll need to check for any local regulations or permits, understand water flow on your land and make sure the dam’s design matches its purpose—whether it’s for stock water, irrigation or flood control.
An earthmoving contractor can help assess your site, shape the basin and compact the walls to make sure it holds up.
What kind of earthworks do I need for a shed pad?
It depends on your shed’s size, the slope of your land and what you’re building it on. Most shed pads need to be level, compacted and elevated enough to avoid water damage.
Earthworks contractors can cut, fill and compact the area to suit your building specs, and factor in drainage so water runs away—not into—your shed.
